Updated: Thanks to Steve Reale and Jack Ewing we located Paul Legan in Riverside, CA who left the service after a boring tour in B-52H's as an EWO, followed by a 6 month TDY to Korat in the first USAF Wild Weasel unit. He was flying in F-100's, escorting F-105's into North Vietnam.
The now famous unit lasted 6 months because of high losses and the F-100's inability to keep up with the Thud's. Reportedly the EWO's recognized it as a suicide mission to Attack SA-2 sites, but soon had the F-105 guys convinced to cancel the low level attacks and managed to knock out 9 SA-2's!
